LaunchCode's free tech education programs offer an exciting opportunity to take the first step in launching your tech career, but success in this program comes with a set of expectations. Let's take a closer look at what's expected of you as a LaunchCode learner:
Whether you're enrolled in an in-person or a virtual course, attending classes is required. Missing too many classes, having multiple unexplained absences, or consistently missing parts of class may lead to dismissal. This emphasizes the importance of being actively present throughout the duration of the program.
While attendance is required, we understand that life happens and unexpected things may come up. We ask that you communicate any absences with our team as soon as you know about them. You’ll learn more about our full attendance policy on the first day of class!
To successfully complete the coursework, you will need a reliable computer with at least 8 GB of memory (RAM). If you're using a Mac, it should be running one of the two most recent versions of macOS. For PC users, your computer should run Windows 10 or newer for 2025, and Windows 11 or newer starting in 2026.
In addition to a capable computer, reliable internet access is essential, whether you're working from home or another study space. Make sure to set up a focused, quiet place where you can complete your coursework without distractions!
Classroom time, whether in-person or virtual, are thoughtfully structured to optimize your learning experience. During live class sessions, students are expected to actively participate in a variety of learning activities. These sessions will include opportunities to ask questions, engage in discussions, watch live demonstrations of complex topics, and complete exercises and project work. Depending on the activity, students will work independently, in small groups, or as a whole class, ensuring a dynamic and collaborative learning environment. Participation in these different formats is key to fully understanding and applying the course material.
Most of your learning in LaunchCode's program extends beyond the classroom. Students are expected to dedicate 2-3 hours to homework each day, totaling at least 10-20 hours per week. Engaging with materials to help you build background knowledge on the topic, practicing new skills, working on projects, and preparing for the class to come.
LaunchCode places a high value on a positive and respectful learning environment. During class, students are expected to adhere to LaunchCode's code of conduct, promoting a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and professionalism. This ensures that everyone can make the most out of the learning experience.
Communication is a two-way street. Students are encouraged to stay in regular communication with their LaunchCode Program Manager and Instructional Assistant. This ensures that any questions or concerns are addressed promptly, and students can benefit from the support and guidance provided by these crucial mentors.
The ultimate goal is to graduate, continue onto Liftoff and launch your career in tech! To achieve this, students must complete and pass the self-led Foundations module, fulfill all assignments, attend classes regularly, and meet expectations on projects and mock interviews. This comprehensive evaluation ensures that graduates are well-equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in the tech industry.
By meeting these expectations head-on, students lay the foundation for a successful career in technology. Embrace the challenges, stay engaged, and let the learning adventure unfold!
