Our Course Policies and Expectations

LaunchCode's Part-Time Web Development Class offers an exciting opportunity to take the first step in launching your tech career, but success in this program comes with a set of expectations. Let's take a closer look at what's expected of you as a LaunchCode student.

1. Attend Classes

Whether you're joining in-person or virtually, attending classes is required. Missing too many classes, having multiple unexplained absences, or consistently missing parts of class may lead to dismissal. This emphasizes the importance of being actively present throughout the duration of the program.

2. Participate During Class

Class days are thoughtfully structured to optimize your learning experience. In our flipped classroom model [LINK], in-class time focuses on application and higher order thinking activities, which promotes active participation, discussions, and problem-solving. Each session comprises 60 minutes of focused lecture time, followed by 30 minutes of engaging examples and Q&A. Additionally, there's a 90-minute studio classroom led by a dedicated Teaching Assistant (TA). This blend of lecture and hands-on studio time ensures a comprehensive understanding of the material.

 3. Complete 15-20 Hours of Homework Outside of Class Each Week

Most of your learning in LaunchCode's program extends beyond the classroom. Students are expected to dedicate 2-3 hours to homework each day, totaling at least 15-20 hours per week. This commitment involves a variety of tasks, including completing the previous class's studio activity, watching pre-recorded studio reviews, engaging with assigned readings and prep work for the next class, practicing new skills, and ensuring the completion of any outstanding assignments.

 4. Follow LaunchCode's Code of Conduct

LaunchCode places a high value on a positive and respectful learning environment. During class, students are expected to adhere to LaunchCode's code of conduct, promoting a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and professionalism. This ensures that everyone can make the most out of the learning experience.

5. Communicate with Your TA & CEM

Communication is a two-way street. Students are encouraged to stay in regular communication with their Candidate Engagement Manager (CEM) and Teaching Assistant. This ensures that any questions or concerns are addressed promptly, and students can benefit from the support and guidance provided by these crucial mentors.

6. Complete Assignments & Fulfill Graduation Requirements

The ultimate goal is to graduate and launch your career in tech! To achieve this, students must complete all three units of the class, fulfill all studio classroom assignments, attend classes regularly, and ace the individual project review with a passing grade. This comprehensive evaluation ensures that graduates are well-equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in the tech industry.

LaunchCode's Part-Time Web Dev course is not just an educational program; it's a transformative journey. By meeting these expectations head-on, students lay the foundation for a successful career in technology. Embrace the challenges, stay engaged, and let the learning adventure unfold!
